Ep 4 - The Five Stages of Change

Did you know that there have been over 2,000 scientific studies conducted around how we successfully change our behavior and our lives? Don't worry - I'm not about to get all scientific on you. But I do want to share with you one of the key findings from the decades of research, and that's this:

When we change anything, we go through five stages. Each stage requires something different of us, and each stage builds on the previous stage. Skip a stage, and you set yourself up for failure.

In today's episode, I'm going to introduce you to these 5 stages: 

  • the Pre-contemplation Stage
  • the Contemplation Stage
  • the Preparation Stage
  • the Action Stage
  • and the Maintenance Stage


As you listen to my explanation around each stage of change and what happens in each stage, think about a change you want or need to make, and see which stage you're in regarding that change. Understanding which stage you're in and what you need to accomplish in that stage before moving on to the next stage is one of the many keys to successfully making change.
