Negotiating is an intimidating task for most people, but it is especially difficult for people who are high achievers and people pleasers. Mostly, because it’s not something most of us have had to do before. If you were a high achiever in school, most of the time, your accolades were earned and presented to you; you didn't have to negotiate to be seen as smart or successful in school.

However, in your career, you will need to negotiate. And this can be particularly difficult if you are a person with self-doubt or impostor syndrome because your default will be to a people pleaser. You don’t want to rock the boat because you are grateful to even a job offer, you don’t want to jeopardize your chances.
