This Week on Fabulous Film and Friends, we’re ringing the Round 2 bell of our Francis Ford Coppola vs. Martin Scorsese masters of cinema fight for the crown of greatest American Filmmaker as we compare Mob Epics 1972/74’s Godfathers I &II starring Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan, Richard Castalleno, John Cazale, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Abe Vigoda, Michael V. Gazzo and Lee Strasberg to name but a few,  to 1990’s Goodfellas, starring Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Lorrain Bracco, and Paul Sorvino.

Joining me once again in my Steadicam shot through the Coconut Grove of Cinema loving Wiseguys and gals are my sister Roseanne Caputi, also known as "Kid Kitchen Gloves," cuz she’s always doing the dishes while we’re gulping down our sausage and peppers, then there’s Kendrick “Two Things” Wright, because he never brings up just one thing when he wants to make a point, his partner in crime Dante “The Director” Oliviero cuz he’s the only one among us who’s always making movies, and finally Alex “Mr. Mimic” Robertson, cuz he’s always mimicking people.

So while it wasn’t mandatory, I felt we should watch Godfather II in addition to the Godfather as the two really are just one long movie, but technically we have three movies to compare totaling 9 hours of screentime.

The synopses:

First, The Godfather’s I & II chart the rise and fall of the the Corleone family led by patriarch Vito Corleone as he withstands an assassination attempt and then hands off his criminal empire to his son Michael, whom he hoped would avoid a life of corruption and one day become a great American politician.

Conversely Goodfellas catalogues the life and times of actual Wiseguy Henry Hill who joined the mob as teenager in a childhood dream come true and evolves from petty crook to high end theif and hijacker, accessory to murder and ultimately finger pointer in the federal witness protection program.

Okay, here are the rules again: We going to go around the panel and quickly state whose work we prefer in as many cinematic components as we can cover in what will probably be 3 hours.
