The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry. A historical drama set in 1893, about a young widow, Cora, and a local village caught up in rumours and superstition about a a mythical monster called The Essex Serpent. Claire Danes stars in the TV adaptation.

A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman. This is the story of a grumpy old man called Ove and his relationship with a young family who move in next door. It’s being made into a movie starring Tom Hanks.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owen. An atmospheric murder mystery about a young girl Kya, who grows up alone on the edge of the marsh. When a young man from town is found dead in the marsh, the townsfolk blame the wild marsh girl. The film was made by Reese Witherspoon and stars Daisy Edgar Jones.
