In this episode, Kara, Maja, and Bruce talk about the diagnostic process and personal impact on guest Jason Leaver, a professional filmmaker and video game designer - who is also Kara's pseudo cousin! They discuss medical ableism and common misconceptions about autism, the journey of reconceptualizing one's life and self in light of their autistic identity, and the liberatory benefits of learning about one's own needs. GUEST BIO:
Jason Leaver is a graduate of TMU’s School of Image Arts film program, and an award-winning writer/creator with nearly 30 years of experience as a storyteller in motion arts. Finding innovative ways to tell stories has led to Jason establishing himself as a skilled and award-winning writer, director, and editor. In more recent years, he’s become a successful video game developer (Trash Panda), and is eager to see what kind of stories he can tell with interactive mediums.
