In today's show, the final part of my 4 part tribute to 'La Reina', we have a very special contribution from writer, bandleader, journalist and ethnomusicologist, Aurora Flores, who shares her beautiful memories of Celia. Many, many thanks to her for sharing your memories and wisdom with us!
We know her as the Queen of Salsa, but she was so much more than that...she was an icon, a role model, a cultural hero. She was Salsa! She taught us about the meaning of life, to have pride, to respect ourselves. She was the kind of person who walked through life with grace and dignity, making everyone smile along the way, no matter what she went through. We are eternally grateful to you for sharing your talent with the world! You said, "en el alma de mi gente, en el cuero del tabor, en las manos del conguero, en los pies del bailador, yo vivire". Your voice truly does hold the key to every generation and that's what we'll always remember you... Celia, we love you!
