Mikhail Popkov is a Russian serial killer and rapist who is believed to have murdered at least 78 women and one man between 1992 and 2010. He was known as the "Angarsk Maniac" and the "Werewolf" because of the brutal nature of his crimes. Popkov was a police officer for much of his killing spree, and he used his position to gain the trust of his victims. He was eventually arrested in 2013 and confessed to his crimes. In 2015, he was convicted of 22 murders and sentenced to life in prison. In 2018, he was convicted of an additional 56 murders and was given a second life sentence.
