Today’s poem is “Hideout” by Desmond Egan.
Desmond Egan is a prolific Irish poet who has published almost 30 collections during his career.
This poem is from one of his most recent collections, "Epic", which was published in 2015.
I chose it because it captures something that feels resonant right now.
Our world seems to crowd in around us — either physically in towns or cities, or psychologically, in how we spend so much of our time now lost in the overwhelming noise of the online world.
It is, I think, for most of us, an increasingly rare opportunity to escape that noise, to find the silence that the poet found beside this little stream.
