Niels Högel is a German former nurse and convicted serial killer who is believed to have murdered over 100 patients in two hospitals in Oldenburg and Delmenhorst, Germany, between 2003 and 2018. He is considered one of the deadliest serial killers in modern history. Högel was motivated by a desire to feel power over life and death, and he often injected his patients with lethal doses of drugs during their shifts. He was eventually caught and convicted in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. In 2019, he was convicted again in a separate trial for an additional 85 murders.
