Between The Sheets

Ep. #551: July 20-26, 1990

Listen Later

Kris and David are back this week to discuss the week that was July 20-26, 1990. Topics of discussion include:

  • Jesse Ventura's departure from the WWF over making a deal with Sega to lend his name and likeness to a wrestling video game that would be in direct competition to the WWF games.
  • Sgt. Slaughter debuts on a heel on WWF TV as we discuss how different his whole run goes if Iraq doesn't invade Kuwait…plus his final AWA TV appearances are still airing.
  • The Legion of Doom also makes their WWF TV debut with a little bit of a different presentation than they would get weeks later.
  • Paul Roma and Hercules turn heel on the Rockers in an angle that could've went better.
  • Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan appear on The Arsenio Hall Show in what proves to be an awkward segment at times.
  • The Road Warriors debut in New Japan, albeit for only a handful of shows since they are already signed to the WWF.
  • Riki Choshu and Koji Kitao get into a major spat with Kitao hurling racial slurs and walking out of NJPW.
  • Male fans coming to All Japan Women shows in real numbers for the first time since the rise of the Beauty Pair, and they’re cheering for the women that the female fans don't like, such as Aja Kong.
  • Rumors of a new national promotion get going in the newsletters, and yes, this is the future Global Wrestling Federation.
  • Wild and crazy times in Memphis with Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, and Tessa feuding with The Dirty White Boy, Eddie Gilbert, and The Dirty White Girl.
  • Kerry Von Erich officially leaves the USWA and tells fans to watch him in the WWF on the way out.
  • Jeannie Clarke has incriminating photos of Chris Adams to give to his wife Toni.
  • The NWA not knowing what they want to be as far as a wrestling promotion.
  • Harley Race and Buddy Landell subbing for Ric Flair and Stan Lane respectively on Florida shows, albeit for totally different reasons.

This was a blast of a show, so take a listen and enjoy!!!
