Benga’s Grassy Mountain Coal Project has confronted my wife and I with
great challenges in our lives. We were forced out of our property on the
southern slopes Grassy Mountain four years ago, shortly after we discovered
that Benga had included our property as part of the mine pit proper in
their proposal to mine coal. This was done without our permission or
knowledge. We have now reestablished on the Eastern slopes of the
Livingston Range. As your constituent, I am writing to declare my profound
dissatisfaction with your government’s decision to remove previous
protections that restricted open pit coal mining in these crown of the
continent areas, including the sensitive headwaters of the watershed. Tens
of thousands of Albertans downstream depend on this water.
