In their first discussion about the second season installment of Netflix's MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, and Mustafa Shakir Tariq and Bubba discussed criticisms that the series shied away from "the issues" facing African American inner-city communities. After having watched and re-watched season 2, they reopen the conversation revealing that not only did season 2 not shy away from "the issues", but in fact it took a much more intimate look into the weight of the model minority consciousness present in the African Diaspora here in the U.S.; mental health and self care; anti-blackness; and domestic violence, all of which are real world concerns.
