Last time we chatted, I presented a basic overview of how humans make meaning out of the things we perceive. We talked about how “top-down” and “bottom-up” processing work independently and together to take data and synthesize it into a whole that is coherent to us but also consistent with the pre-existing beliefs and values that we brought to the analysis. Today we will continue on this road but narrow the focus a little to dissect specific cognitive tendencies that are expressed every day in our casual thinking.
