While receiving treatment and recovering from the disease, Kris was left with a clear feeling that Lyme disease was misunderstood and overlooked by the medical community - no one gave her clear answers, so she started researching. Something was awry.  Through her journey of creating the film Under the Skin and writing Bitten, Kris was introduced to Willy Burgdorfer, the discoverer of Lyme microbes that admitted a stark truth of his work during the Cold War.
