💥 DERVISH’ integrates two of Ziya Azazi’s pivotal works, 'Azab' and 'Dervish in Progress'. These pieces showcase the rigorous spiritual path through the four levels of Sufism, echoing the stages of life itself. The performance begins with 'Azab', a profound exploration of the initial levels of Sufism—sharia and tariqa. It portrays the trials one faces before reaching a deeper truth, visualized through the symbolic act of sitting cross-legged, which denotes readiness for the transformative wisdom to come. ✨

🪕 The second part, 'Dervish in Progress', presents a solo performance that encapsulates the final stage of Sufism—ingenuity. This piece reflects Ziya’s deep comprehension of life’s ultimate stage, a theme prevalent in Sufism. It is the fruit of five years of dedicated research on the art of whirling, a spiritual practice that Ziya has introduced to audiences in over 45 countries.
The hauntingly beautiful scores of Uwe Felchle and Mercan Dede elevate the evening's atmosphere, which is complemented by Lutz Deppe's creative lighting and Ischiko's evocative costume designs.🎭
