Respect your elders is something that a lot of us were programmed to believe at a young age. Well, what if your elder was a horrible example and someone who you could never imagine yourself growing up to be? How do you attempt to respect your elders but also secretly say I will never allow myself to be anything like you at the same time? Seems like a very easy task to fake respect and just worry about who you are becoming. Does that open up a whole can of issues that might blur the line? Come along on the journey as the squad begins to develop the best techniques for themselves as they build the foundations of how to honor and respect people like their parents but focus on making sure they do not turn into clones of them. Join the squad as they sit down and buckle up to ride into a conversation that is going to test the limits of making sure they show gratitude and honor to all those before them but respectfully show that I want to become my own version of me.

The Dismount Squad creates 6 questions to discuss on each episode. Everyone in the episode was given these questions prior to the episode recording. The squad individually takes time to journal on each of these questions. The conversations are authentic, raw and deep.
Episode 63 Questions/Thought Sparkers:
1. What’s one tradition or belief you inherited from family or culture that you’ve chosen to question? What did that process look like for you?
2. How do you personally define “respecting your elders”? Has that definition evolved as you’ve matured?
3. Can you love or honor someone while actively rejecting the way they lived or what they believed? What’s that boundary feel like in your life?
4. Have you ever felt guilt for not following in the footsteps of family or cultural expectations? How did you process that and move forward?
5. What does it look like to build your own version of legacy? Can you honor your past without being defined by it?
6. If you could create one new tradition for the next generation, what would it be? How would it reflect both what you’ve learned and let go of?
