This week, the United States celebrated its Independence Day and what’s more American than a summer blockbuster… except a summer blockbuster sequel. So, J. McVay is joined by both Jacqueline Soller and Charles Hinshaw to discuss three recent sequels of varying degrees of quality, necessity, and adherence to franchise norms:

Incredibles 2 - directed by Brad Bird and starring Holly Hunter and Craig T. Nelson

Sicario: Day of the Soldado - directed by Stefano Sollima and starring Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - directed by J.A. Bayona and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard

Along the way, we’ll also hear from Radio Dispatch’s John Knefel with his take on the measures that Democrats should be willing to go to in order to stave off a potentially generations-long hard-right conservative majority on the Supreme Court; we’ll hear from a man named Art, who shares how his sense of how others saw him when he was younger helped to form his self image; and we’ll take an exclusive early listen to a performance by Brooklyn band The Rizzos, from an episode of BTR Live Studio set to be released next week.
