In this episode of "Coming to Your Senses," Jules is joined by the deeply insightful Natalie McMillan. Nat opens up about a pivotal experience during her time as a Chief Executive, when a toxic work environment led her to reassess everything and ultimately launch her own business. Nat shares how clarity, self-assuredness, and embracing "selfishness" (in the healthiest sense) guided her away from people-pleasing and toward living in alignment with her values.
About Natalie:
Natalie is an HR and OD professional, who has worked across a range of sectors including the NHS, private, charity and not-for-profit. She has worked at board-level as Chief People Officer, Deputy Chief Executive and CEO. Natalie now runs her own business, McMillan and Associates Ltd, providing HR and OD support and consultancy to businesses across the UK. She is a non-executive director (Deputy Chair/SID) at South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust. She is an Associate with NHS Providers designing and delivering the board development programme. She delivers executive development notably with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Cumbria Northumberland Tyne and Wear and North East Ambulance Trust. Other clients can be provided including a range of boards.
Natalie has significant experience of working in the health sector including acute hospitals, primary and community care, CCGs, Mental Health and Ambulance Trusts. Her professional background is HR and OD however, she has operated at Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive level enabling her to have a deeper understanding of system thinking and transformation and the strategic landscape across the health economy. More recently she has provided leadership and direction within the West Yorkshire ICS and continues to Chair the Primary Care Workforce Group. She undertakes Well-led reviews with Consult One.
