The Latest Generation

Ep. 7 - All the Boomer's Fault

Listen Later

This one actually starts from a look at how the 2016 election made people feel, and from there whether it's significant that both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are from the Boom generation.  The way people react to them may not be  because they are entitled or evil: maybe it's because that generation, like others of the Prophet archetype, has always wanted change , and the rest of society has had to deal with it. Includes comparisons to the American Civil War to see why the way people feel today might be similar to why America split into rival factions in 1860.

The American leadership database shows  congress and other American government positions broken down by generation. It's on Strauss & Howe's lifecourse site. http://www.lifecourse.com/rdb

The American Civil War anomaly discussion comes mostly from  Strauss & Howe's Generations (1991). The idea that the large Transcendental generation came from the Era of Good Feelings first Turning was discussed on the old Fourth Turning forums. Those have been archived on the Generational Dynamics site at http://generationaldynamics.com/tftarchive/

Star Trek IV The Voyage Home (1986) was partially filmed at the then newly opened Monterey bay aquarium. They haven't ever had whales there, though.  https://www.montereybayaquarium.org
