In this episode, I chat with Brad Sims, SGX coach about his experiences in fitness and the Spartan races. He also talks a bit about his top tips for training and staying healthy!
Takeaway Points:
1. Sometimes the path isn't obvious to you, but it takes an outside perspective to show the way.
2. "Use the stage" and make a difference in yours and others' lives.
3. Once that clarity comes, you will start moving in the right direction.
4. Treat improvements and qualifications as an investment, rather than an expenditure.
5. It's up to you to make the best of what you have been given. Life is all about learning and whatever the case, LEARN.
Brad's Tips For The Spartan:
1. When training, combine endurance and strength.
2. Train for the race that you're doing. Figure out what type of trials you will be put through. For example, with the longer events, focus more on endurance. Build your endurance to perform work for a long period of time. Train for time rather than distance every now and then.
3. Good training run target is 80% of the distance of the race (in terms of running).
4. Workout 5-6 days a week max and use the other time for recovery and active recovery. Don't go a thousand percent every day.
