The Speak to Scale Podcast

Ep 74: Leadership Lessons that Make You a Better Speaker

Listen Later

When you hear the word “leader”, do you get excited and empowered to make a difference or is that a word that makes you question your value or feel inferior? When we look at speaking and leading from the stage, the term leader is not about authority, seniority or recognition. Leading from the stage is all about service! It's the act of guiding your audience on a clear journey to help them achieve a result. Today I want to have an honest chat about what leadership really means within your business, particularly when it comes to speaking.

If you loved this episode and it motivated you to add speaking to your business, please take the time to leave me some positive feedback on iTunes. I’d also love to hear about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories and tag us @thecreativespeakerpodcast.

Episode takeaways you don’t want to miss:

  • Lead from the front: never ask them to do something you wouldn’t do yourself
    • Show them that you’ve been there - find common ground
  • Cast the vision: when you’re asked to do something uncomfortable you focus on that pain. Paint the bigger picture of how this impacts everyone
    • Your audience doesn’t always see what is possible for them, but you do. Show them.
  • Service breeds respect, not fear!
    • No strong-arm selling… help them get a quick win
  • Give them a clear next step
    • Be their guide
