On this episode, Abigail reflects on recent conversations with friends about how cultural Christianity gets “the joy of the Lord” wrong. For the American Christian, we may not “suffer” the way many of our brothers and sisters across the world do, but we will (and do) face opposition for our beliefs… And what do we do about seasons of dryness? When we don’t want to seek the Lord?
But if we were to shift our view on what “the joy of the Lord” really means—to rely on His strength, identifying with Christ in His sufferings, and thus, identifying with Him in His resurrection and life—how much bolder would we be? How would our communities and churches be impacted? Would we see awakening? Revival?
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed.”
1 Peter 4:12-13 ESV
