Welcome back to another episode of The Rescue Revolution. Today, we’ll be discussing American Greyhounds and their cousins, the Spanish Galgos with Dr. Karen Michalski.  As a veterinarian and the founder of Serenity Animal Hospital in Stirling Heights, Michigan, she has made it her life’s work to specialize in greyhounds.  This is why she is now famously known as The Greyhound Doc. 

In addition to her work with the American Greyhound, Dr. Michalski has traveled to Spain to help rescue and bring back galgos to the United States.  Due to the lack of animal protection laws in Spain to help neglected and abused galgos, she has been advocating for them to be included under these protection laws in the upcoming law review. Episode 4 (SOS Galgos--Rescuing the Spanish Greyhound), from a previous broadcast, covers the plight of the galgos in more detail.

Furthermore, the Greyhound Doc will touch on the American Greyhound and dog racing , including the impact this practice has had on these dogs’ lives.  

Unfortunately, after this episode was recorded, the Spanish government decided NOT to include galgos under animal protection laws in the Spring of 2023.
