Ep 81: The Complexity of Being A School Librarian

Listen Later

This episode of the Making After School Cool podcast focuses on the Complexity of Being A School Librarian.  Lately there has been much discussion regarding a books subject matter, variety and types of books in schools and public libraries. According to Thanh Nguyen the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Sympathizer,” many books are being tarnished by so called good hearted and moralistic people who perceive the subject matter of the books to be unsettling for their children. In some cases, a trend of censorship is developing to limit books not only for a parent’s child but for all children. To discuss what it is like to be a school Liberian is my guest Reanea Wilson who is currently a librarian on an elementary campus

During this episode you will learn:

  • The role of a school librarian for the students they serve.
  • Recent changes in the types of books in the library, especially those dealing with history, diversity and social issues?
  • The book selection process librarian uses to supply a library.
  • How librarian resolve problems with parents who have an issue regarding a book their child has access to in the library
  • Guest

Reanea Wilson is currently a Liberian on an elementary campus. She has more than twenty years of experience as an educator.  The last fourteen years has been as a librarian.
