In this podcast, I discussed the categories of stablecoins. Some described were dollar-backed and crypto stablecoins. USDC is a dollar backed stablecoin.
USDC was co-founded by Coinbase and Circle. I went over the advantages and disadvantages of USDC. As well as the possibilities on assisting citizens in foreign countries.
DAI is a crypto backed stablecoin. It's backed by cryptocurrency and the founder is MakeDAO. They are a decentralized autonomous organization.
I also went over the challenges with DAI and how some people prefer stablecoins that don't have a centralized authority.
Other points discussed was how stablecoins provide a hedge against inflation and volatility. It also is an option to store wealth, especially in countries where the currency has been devalued. Such as Turkey, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
Regulation with stablecoins was another issue I brought up that will be a prevalent topic in 2022.
