What was your parents' "favorite weapon" when punishing you when you were a kid?

Everyone of us grew up in very different households and our parents have very different ways of disciplining us as children. Back in the 90s, it was very common to hear stories of "palo," "buntal," & "latigo" but were those ways effective in disciplining children?
