When you know your business isn't profitable, you will begin to hide the truth to avoid any uncomfortable feelings. The problem is, this can occur for years and although you may sneak by for awhile, time eventually catches up. When I started my farm operation in the bottom of the ag economy, I lied and hid my numbers because I didn't want to know the truth. This left me in a constant panic and anxiety stricken roller coaster ride that left me frozen. It wasn't until I exposed everything to myself and my banker that I finally had a foundation to build something solid on.
