This week’s Present Pleasures
Moulin Rouge (2001, 12:10) is one of the most memorable movie musicals of all time. Starring Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, John Leguizamo and Jim Broadbent, it tells the tragic forbidden love story between Christian and Satine in 1899 Paris. Equally tragic: Ruby and Lexi end up discussing a lot more about Erewhon and the Winter Olympics in place of much deeper film analysis. Still, they note their favorite musical sequences in the film, discuss alternate actresses that were almost Satine, and what other movie musicals they enjoy.
