There are an estimated 180 million pets in the U.S. with more than 40% of households having one. Do any of these people enjoy taking their pet to the veterinarian? Probably not. It's a very unenjoyable experience for the pet and the owner. It's also more dangerous for the veterinarian as the pets are feeling stressed and anxious which tends to make them more hostile.
VetPronto is now your solution to this problem as the company has created an on-demand house call veterinary service. Their goal is to provide the highest quality and most convenient veterinary care for millions of pet owners. The company was started in San Francisco in 2014 and has recently expanded to 10 other cities.
In this interview I spoke with Joe about why he started VetPronto, the difficulties in raising capital from traditional investors, why and when they turned to crowdfunding (which was a success), the challenges of acquiring customers, how they work with vets and how they compensate them, their current revenue/business model, the company's expansion plans and much more.
