Why do Malaysians look so high upon people with titles. 

If you have a Dato, Dato Seri, Datuk, Tan Sri, etc......the general public seem to bestow extra respect and give more leeway to them.  

It's probably warranted when those titles are given out of merit.....  

But what if those titles are purchased? Not necessarily on merit. Just with cash? Do we still give unconditional privileges and respect to them?
