It’s our long-awaited July double episode! Comedian, writer, and podcast producer extraordinaire Ryan McMahon joins Derrick and Charlie to discuss Tom King’s “The Inconvenient Indian” and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’ “Red: A Haida Manga.” Planned as a wide-ranging and fun discussion of books and politics that would serve as our version of Canada 150 counter-programming, early on in the show it becomes clear to Ryan that he’ll need to conduct a Podcasting 101 workshop for our hosts. (Listen right to the end for outtake audio from the workshop.)This episode features an in-depth discussion of Canadian colonialism past and present, and of some of the literary and cultural voices stepping up to dismantle it. As a bonus, you'll get to hear about Ryan's forthcoming book and you’ll find out why former Ontario Premier Bob Rae has blocked both Derrick and Ryan on Twitter. (You can watch Ryan’s Walrus Talk shout-out to Rae here, starting at the 8:00 min mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFhlH0PdHIg) Editing by André Goulet, who recently won the NCCRA Best in Podcasting award for his work as host and producer of Ricochet's Unpacking the News.
