Here are the TOP Headlines in Crypto and Blockchain News on Thursday the 9th of August 2018
-Bitcoin (BTC) bulls appear to be defending the $6,000 support as the current sell-off is beginning to show signs of exhaustion. BTC has now dropped to a three-week low of $6,121 and is down 26 from the July 24th high at $8,507. BTC closed below the ascending trendline but found support at $6,344. A drop below $6,000 is still on the cards but the RSI is now in oversold territory which suggest a small relief rally is on the way..
A little known Hardware wallet called BitFi received a lot of attention, ever since John McAfee claimed it is unhackable. To back his claim, he announced a $250K bounty to anyone who manages to hack it. Though hackers have managed to demonstrate multiple exploits, both McAfee and the company has refused to accept them. To make things worse, a 15-year old hacker has now taken control over the hardware to run retro game DooM on it. Once again, McAfee has refused to admit the hack..
Thailand recently announced favourable regulations for Cryptocurrencies and ICOs in the country. The regulatory body announced that for a company to conduct an ICO, they'd have to apply with the SEC and get an approval. The Thai SEC has also created an ICO portal for this purpose. According to a new report, nearly 50 companies have applied for an ICO licence in the country. The SEC has now selected 5 projects to run them as pilots before approving the remaining applications..
Early this year, IBM and Maersk announced a partnership to create TradeLens, a blockchain solution for the shipping industry. TradeLens is looking to integrate global supply chain in partnership with 94 different organisations who have agreed to try out the new system. The partnership includes more than 20 port and terminal operators in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong.
It is no secret that Bitcoin Mining uses a considerable amount of electricity. Though the exact impact is not clear, Dr Jon Truby, the director of the Centre for Law and Development at Qatar University has asked for a ban on mining because it threatens our existence. He believes as Bitcoin's value increases and greater the incentive it is to mine, it's going to have a bigger impact on the environment. At the same time, he believes governments will not be able to regulate it. So the crypto community will have to develop alternative solutions which do not have an impact on the environment.
