Kerry Higley knew she always had an entrepreneurial bug since she was little and wanted to own her dance studio. As an adult Kerry came to realize that employees only leave their job for one simple reason. They don’t can’t see a career path.
In June 2016 Kerry, AND HER CEO AT THE TIME, set out to help with just that. "There’s no growth you can experience like you can with a small business. That’s where we got our passion. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a company out there that could help small business owners with this problem. Help educate their staff with the opportunities there could be with that company and help employees decide what they want to do.”
In todays episode with Kerry we had main 3 talking points that we haven’t really gotten into yet in any interview thus far, starting with:
Co-working Spaces
When you’re at home it’s just you. It’s great but also tough if you’re a people person and you only aren’t used to it.
In a co-working space you are surrounded by other entrepreneurs. It allows you to make relationships, talk through the struggles you have and bounce ideas off each other.
Delegation Nation
Kerry started delegating the recruiting process as well as the interview process. Delegation is awesome because it can free you up so much. But it’s so hard for people to let go and give up control.
It’s scary for entrepreneurs because the business is your baby. But you can’t be scared to grow because once you take the plunge growth is multiplied and you can never go back.
The main two reasons businesses don’t grow is because they are scared to spend money (spend money to make money) and they are afraid to let go and give up control.
If you do it right and make the right hires, you’re going to make your money back quickly and definitely not regret your decision.
Communicate
Have conversations with your managers and your community. Let people know what your goals are, even if you think they are small.
It exposes you a little bit and you definitely need to know your audience. You can’t say anything to anyone but don’t be afraid to speak up.
We really want to challenge everyone on these second two points of delegation and communication. You can’t be afraid to do either one in your business because if you do, there is the scary potential of your business becoming stagnant. If there is no movement then there is no growth, and if there is no growth then what do you really have?
I know we've been teasing how Kerry left with her CEO. Listen to today's episode to hear all the details of how that happened.
