In this episode, host Garry Hills speaks with 98 year-old Barbara Thelander who served as a Wireless Telegraphist during World War 2 in the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF). Barbara was in high school when war was declared in 1939, served in the Women's Australian National Service (WANS) before enlisting in the WAAAF. She served at Garbutt Field, Townsville and Richmond Air Base and was on duty on the August day in 1945 when the war ended.
Barbara lives now in Toowoomba and it was a great honour to be able to speak briefly with her.
