Join host Joey Chou as he dives into socio-economic issues faced by Taiwan, and their broader impact beyond the reefs of this island nation.
For many, Taiwan is considered a leader in animal protection, often ranking among the top countries with the strictest animal welfare laws. The island made international headlines in 2017 when it became the first country in Asia to ban euthanasia in animal shelters, a groundbreaking policy shift that signaled a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable. This decision led to an increase in shelter adoptions and highlighted the importance of ethical pet ownership. However, despite progressive legislation, challenges remain. Issues such as animal cruelty, pet abandonment, and the ethical concerns surrounding pet breeding and ownership continue to stir debate.
To help us navigate these issues, we are honored to be joined by Abigail Forsyth, the Asia Campaign Manager of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). With years of experience leading campaigns that expose cruelty and promote animal welfare across the continent, Abigail has been at the forefront of the fight for stronger protections. From advocating for an end to the fur trade and factory farming to pushing for stricter penalties for animal abuse, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that animals are given the dignity and rights they deserve. She has also played a key role in investigating large-scale abuse cases and working with governments to strengthen animal protection laws.
