Another example of the unwavering and unfailing power of a mother’s love. When Daciné Brown noticed her daughter displaying atypical behaviors, she trusted her instincts, combated dismissals from health care professionals until she landed on the right diagnosis.
As a mother to a child with autism, Daciné recognized the importance of providing her child with the necessary resources for development. Faced with limited access, and no insurance coverage, she took it upon herself to drive change. This led her to pursue an academic path to attain her ABA certification, leveraging this expertise to support her child.
This episode serves as a reminder to pause and help our communities, whether it be the autism community, our communities of color, and/or other minorities. It also prompts us to shed any ableist beliefs and biases, understanding that a diagnosis does not diminish a person's worth or capabilities. Let's stand together, embracing empathy and understanding, and work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive world for our children. It starts with us.
