Aquatics Operation Manager
We are talking with Journey Amos, she is the Aquatics Operation Manager with the City of Baytown Texas. A Rather large operation that employs 100's of lifeguard and staff that support the customer along with handling all the maintenance to maintaining the facility right down to the water quality to keep you safe so you can enjoy the water and all that has to offer.

Journey, just like so many other aquatic professionals got started young as a lifeguard and working her way up the ladder to where she manages community pools to provide lifeguards. To where is now today with the City of Baytown Tx.
We talk about the challenges to hire qualified lifeguards as it's not just a problem for her but that of many other facilities to have the lifeguard pass the minimum swim test.

'Culture of Safety that has to be in place with an operation like this, right down to finding the parent of a 2 year old that may have wondered off from their parents. Having parents understand that they need to keep their children at an arms length away at all time. The water is a dangerous place for children, as drowning is the leading cause of accidental death to children ages 1-4. It is a priority of Journey's but also of ours here at the Kels Group to educate parents on the importance of learning to swim and to properly supervise children at all times as the staff and lifeguard are not babysitters.
I have explained this many times before in my own situation regarding my daughters drowning. As parents we must be responsible. Understand that it can happen to you as drowning can happen to anyone at any time when they are in the water regardless of ability to swim or supervision. We are Human and because we are we make mistakes. Understand water safety and know the rules. Learn to swim at the earliest age and yes that includes you too Moms and Dads.
