Amy is a graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Nebraska College of Law. Since 1999, Amy has guided the legal work of the ACLU. She is a frequent lecturer on civil rights and liberties for the Nebraska Bar Association, law schools and general audiences. She has served on the boards of Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, Disability Rights Nebraska and the Nebraska Innocence Project.
Amy recently won a significant Nebraska Supreme Court victory striking down Nebraska’s ban on gay and lesbian foster parents as well as a historic win for marriage equality in federal court. She practices in state and federal court on issues as diverse as the free speech rights of a man seeking to hand out Christian religious pamphlets to the rights of an African American family subjected to excessive force.
