Today’s show is all about restoration and conservation! There are not many women in this highly skilled trade which has been around for thousands of years. A stonemason carves blocks of stone, they cut and prepare it to either repair or build stone structures which include historical buildings, bridges, statues, and headstones using a range of materials such as quartz and granite. Rachael talks passionately about her trade and wished that she took it up earlier. She says:
“I can do the things that I want to do, there is nothing stopping me. I wish I did it sooner.”
She also talks about how she overcame a serious car crash and learning to walk again.
When not working on stone, she collects antique clothing from the 1930s and 1940s and wishes she could time travel and be a medieval stone mason.
