As a startup manager we have to learn leadership on the fly. That is why we want to bring bitesize leadership education to you as a startup leader.
The Format "Leadership Question of the Day" is a short answer to a leadership question we received and will be published every morning ready for you to start the day.
Read along:
Hmm. How do you handle difficult employees as a leader? Difficult employees start first with having the assumption as the leader that they're difficult. Often it is not that the people are difficult. It seems they're difficult, but often they have a reason for that.
So you are, or the organization or someone else in the organization it's not listening to them,
is not taking them into account and what is happening with them, about them, and so on. Try to understand where this person comes from. Don't treat this person as a difficult person.
Try to understand what's going on with that person. Maybe that will already resolve that person, it is not difficult anymore. What I often do is I listen, I'm not pushing back, and I just try to figure out what's going on with the person. Simple as that. Leadership question of the day.
