Here are the TOP Headlines in Crypto and Blockchain News on Friday the 3rd of August 2018
-CoinMarketCap took to Twitter to apologize to users for today’s data glitch, saying the reason for the issue surrounded Tether (USDT), the No. 10 cryptocurrency by market cap. The company tweeted: “There was a price calculation error on Tether which caused any listing with a Tether market to become artificially inflated.” Meanwhile, they promised to provide what they described as a “post-mortem” of the situation shortly. Tether is backed by the USD and was recently the target of scrutiny surrounding alleged price manipulation.
-On August 1st, Coinbase announced the hiring of its first Chief Compliance officer, Jeff Horowitz. Jeff is reported to have worked with big companies in the state in the regulatory and compliance department. Previously, he worked with Pershing LLC, BNY Mellon's daughter company, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Federal Deposit Insurance Company (FDIC). Jeff, reportedly, has worked in the compliance and anti-laundering department all his life.
-The Dutch Central Bank has stated that cryptocurrencies are not “real money” and cannot be used for everyday purpose as they are too volatile. The bank has decided not to institute a ban on cryptocurrencies but remains firm in it’s view that they are not real money. Divisional director Petra Hielkema recently stated that, “If something wants to be treated as money, you have to be able to spend, save and calculate with it...So we do not consider it to be money as such.” The Dutch central bank does support the blockchain technology underlying cryptocurrencies and has conducted various experiments with it over the past three years according to Hielkema.
-Tron is gaining mass adoption, and this has seen 20,000 stores in Spain and Italy directly selling Tron to customers. The purchase is enabled by the use of a crypto card, Bitnovo. The company offers the same service for BCH, BTC, Dash, Cardano, Ethereum Classic, and ETH. With the crypto card, users can redeem their cryptos online.
