Disney movies portray to their audience that once a woman finds her prince charming, they both lived happily ever after, the end. But in reality, we as humans fail to realize that there is no happy ending if both parties are not willing to do the work to have a happy ending, or that the relationship is only one sided.
I soon realize after my divorce that I was giving my all and catering to Lost Boy’s needs and wants. Growing up in the Hmong culture, my parents engrained in me and my sisters that as a Hmong women, we are to learn to cook, clean, get educated, give birth to babies, sit down and shut up even if we are being abuse in numerous of ways, and that we don’t matter but more shameful if we get pregnant before marriage or get divorce. Hmong women only exist to live their life only for their husband.
As you listen to this episode, you will hear from my experience and me realizing that I too matter in the marriage. Just because you vow to spend the rest of your life with your husband, that doesn’t mean you stop living your own individual life. To all my ladies out there, take a listen.
