Ep.18: Machete

Listen Later

This week the Papis sharpen their blades and dive into Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, a grindhouse explosion of politics, violence, satire, and pure Latino rage. We break down the film’s brutal commentary on immigration, border politics, and corruption, and how Machete turns exploitation cinema into a loud middle finger aimed straight at the system. From Machete’s unstoppable aura and his legendary use of machetes, guns, and whatever else is within arm’s reach, to the over-the-top action that blurs the line between parody and protest, we get into why this movie still hits hard today. We also talk about Danny Trejo as a cultural icon, the intentionally ridiculous tone, and of course Lindsay Lohan’s absolutely random cameo and what it represents in peak Rodriguez chaos.

Let us know what you rate the film, and tell us what we should watch next!
