ep2 - 2001 echoes

Listen Later

This episode discusses the audio/visual synchronization that occurs when watching the final scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey (Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite) with the audio of Pink Floyd's song "Echoes" from the album Meddle.

The first half is a live reaction to the sync in real time. The second half is a look into the history of Stanley Kubrick and Pink Floyd as well as what makes this one of the most amazing movie/music combinations of all time.

How to synchronize 2001 echoes:

Find a copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey (physical copy, downloaded copy, streaming copy) and pause the movie at the beginning of the Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite title card. Then turn the volume down on the TV, computer or application playing the movie.

Then queue up the song "Echoes" by Pink Floyd from the album Meddle and pause it at the beginning with the volume up.

Play both the movie and the song at the same time. You will know the the two are in sync if the second ping from the song "Echoes" hits about one second before the Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite title card disappears on the screen.

Reminder: owning a copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey is required for cult membership.
