Dolen, who is aged between nine and thirteen, has run away from home and Mum's awful cooking. On the way to nowhere in particular, he has met a strange old man, Jimbird Flyflower, who seems to have only one of everything, and who offers to take Dolen to the moon. As their journey continues, they meet some new friends along the way...
