Maddie is one of Britain’s most celebrated Olympians. As an all-action hockey goalkeeper, her dynamic style has to some degree changed the way her position is regarded. In 2016 in Rio, she helped her GB team to a momentous Olympic Gold medal with victory over the previously all-conquering Dutch. With the help of extensive preparation and fine-tuning, the quality of her anticipation was such that she saved each of the Dutch penalty shuffles in the final “shoot out”, that ultimately led to GB’s dramatic, ground-breaking victory. Very few athletes would have experienced the pressure and the scrutiny that she was under that day. Maddie’s ability to hold her nerve and channel her skills successfully mark her out as a titan of British sport.
