Now, please do not mistake this as me saying one is better than the other - just because you know music theory doesn't mean you will be a great songwriter.  And there are thousands of excellent songwriters that know nothing about music theory. 

 What I am talking about is creative freedom.  I am talking about your approach to your songwriting, your approach to your music being one that feels controlled (by you!), fulfilling and free from self-doubt and criticism.
