#259 RJWhite, the owner of the @VipersProBasketball located in Lake County, Illinois. When she first took over the team, there wasn't anyone in the audience-- literally. The only sound was the wheatgrass blowing across the gym space. But with dedication and some creative thinking, he was able to bring in over 3,500 people and reach fire code.
She advised that "to have a basketball league that focused on both connecting the community and highlighting their players' talents, she had to figure out how her team could gain influence in the area. With the use of market research, you can understand what would make the most impact on this particular crowd. Knowing the dynamics of people in the local community was also important in order for her team to stand out and be successful."
RJ also believed that "as a business owner, it is essential to nurture your business in the same way you would a child. Having a business is like parenting: there will be highs and lows along the way, but watching it grow and evolve and having those conversations are part of what makes the journey so rewarding. Similar to raising kids, running a successful business requires parental care and dedication; any hiccups or disagreements along the road are natural, but keeping motivated to push forward is key to both endeavors."
RJ advised leaders to "consider, there's no way that you're gonna have something and you don't have a love for it."
According to RJ, #BrittneyGriner is someone who she thinks is an amazing leader in her circle of relationships and exemplifies the advice he gives in the interview.
