Mindfulness is about learning to be ‘present in the moment’. For me that happens when I catch a wave surfing – my mind doesn’t have all the regular background noise such as, "I have to do this and I have to do that" or "Why is she angry with me" etc, etc. Looking up at the clouds or watching my son play can also take methere. The flip side is driving somewhere and arriving at your destination and not being able to recall anything about the drive – some people refer to this as mindlessness!! And it happens to me often. My mind will be so busy that I didn’t notice any of the journey; the buildings or trees I passed or worryingly the pedestrians and cars!
For most of us, how to be a mindful parent whilst trying to do all the other tasks we need to accomplish in our day can seem like another overwhelm in our life. But as ‘Buddhism for Mothers’ author Sarah Napthali explains in this episode of TheEdtalks, it doesn’t have to be an overwhelm at all.
I really love that Sarah’s approach is refreshingly honest and free from any preaching, acknowledging that you will have cranky days and unforeseen emergencies that challenge the most blissed out of meditators. The aim though is to try. She shares small easy steps we can take each day to be mindful and describes how that will enrich your life and that of your children and partner.
Tweet: Bring more energy into your life with mindfulness. Sarah Napthali explains how in Ep29.
Don’t worry about mistakes. There are none.

Outro song “Song in Sea” by Aquaman's Lab
