A flashback to a cadet winter training exercise reveals that Ymir knows Christa is also hiding something: she's an illegitimate child of noble decent who's been exiled. The flashback also shows Ymir making promises and using her powers to save their lives. Back at the tower Ymir defends the scouts against the titan onslaught but ultimately falls victim herself. When all seems lost Hange's squad arrives just in time to save everyone.
